Description
Enzensberger, Hans Magnus (translated by the author). The Sinking of the Titanic: A Poem. Manchester: Carcanet Press Limited, 1981. First UK Edition. Blue Cloth. Very Good. ix, 98pp. The original manuscript of this book-length poem was begun by Enzensberger in Havana in 1969 & mailed to himself in East Berlin but, ironically, given its title, never arrived. This “reconstructed” version was eventually published in German 8 years later. From the library of Pamela Clunies Ross who ran the Poetry Secretariat for the Poetry Society. The Poetry Secretariat helped arrange funding for poetry readings & tours. Inscribed & signed in full by Enzensberger in Cambridge, 1983. Text-block age-toned. Price-clipped dust jacket a little sunned at spine; lettering unaffected. Signed books by Enzensberger are extremely uncommon in English translation.
