Description
Brownjohn, Alan. The Railings: Poems. London: The Digby Press, 1961. First Edition. Brick Red Paper Covered Boards. Near Fine. 59pp. (with list of subscribers). Inscribed in 1973 on the title page by Brownjohn for Anthony Thwaite (one of the subscribers). Laid in is a t.l.s. dated 1962 referencing his intention to stand as Labour candidate for Richmond & musing on other poet-politicians of the past. The protected dust jacket still has an intact PBS wraparound banner. Also laid in is a flyer for a reading by Brownjohn, Thwaite & George MacBeth. Dust jacket has a short closed tear at the tail fore corner of front panel & a tiny chip missing at head of very slightly handled & marked spine. An attractive copy with a nice association.
