Extensive subscription list including the names of Pope and Swift. Head and tail-pieces throughout. Decorated capitals to the dedication, preface and account of the author. The last by Joseph Spence. Additional poem at rear on an unpaginated sheet not recorded in Foxon: “The following was written since the preceding pages were printed off. An Ode presented to their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Wales, in Richmond Gardens on Thursday, May 6, 1736.” In original 18th century calf boards with double line fillet borders sympathetically re-backed with raised bands & gilt lettered red morocco label in second compartment. Two 18th century names on end papers otherwise internally clean barring a half grapefruit sized water-stain just affecting the text at the fore edge of the last 20pp.
