Description
Anon. Poems By Nobody Knows Who. Southampton: Forbes and Pittman, 1857. First Edition. Green Cloth. Very Good. (vii), 134pp. Gilt lettering to spine and front board. As far as indications of the author’s identity there is only the dedicatory poem for the Welsh poet & novelist “to my dearest friend, Caroline Giffard Phillipson”. In addition to which, a number of poems are dated 1852 from Halifax, Nova Scotia as well as two longer narrative poems; one (12pp.) titled ‘A Canadian Tale’ & the other (8pp.) ‘Una’ about a native Canadian girl. There are a few poems of a nautical flavour; either of her own passage or addressed to her beloved who was evidently a sailor. Corners bumped & slight surface wear to rear board
