Description
Olds, Sharon. The Father. London: Secker & Warburg, 1993. First UK Edition. Card Wrappers. Very Good. (vii), 75pp. Inscribed by Olds: “For Anthony Thwaite, with all good wishes, after the Purcell, along the river, Sharon Olds, April 1993”. The occasion was the award ceremony at the Southbank in London for the TS Eliot prize for which this collection was shortlisted. Thwaite was part of the judging panel. Although it was actually won by Ciaran Carson for his first collection, First Language; in 2012, on the 20th anniversary of the prize, Olds was to win it (the first US poet to do so) for The Stag’s Leap. A few spots of foxing at text-block edges. A nice association copy of the UK edition which is naturally uncommon to find signed..
