Description
Gardner, Wrey (editor): Nicholson, Norman; Fraser, G. S.; Moore, Nicholas; Rilke, Rainer Maria (trans. Andrew Pearse) et al.. Poetry Quarterly Spring 1942 (Sydney Keyes’ copy). London: Grey Walls Press, 1942. First Edition. Printed Wrappers. Very Good. 40pp. Keyes, whose pencilled ownership signature is at the head of the contents page, would have gleaned some satisfaction from his poem Remember Your Lovers being singled out as the only poem of note in Eight Oxford Poets; the anthology Keyes jointly edited. The reviewer overlooked Keith Douglas in doing so & his remark that there must be better poetry being written in Oxford would have raised a hollow laugh from Larkin who had been omitted & never forgave the hurt. Wrappers a little soiled & rubbed with rust marks from staples. A great association copy with the extremely scarce signature of Keyes who was killed three weeks after reaching the Tunisian front in April of the following year.
