Description

AB119797, Alford John, Poems, London, 1913, The Poetry Bookshop, First Edition, Brown Publisher’s Boards, Near Fine, Very Good, pp. (vii), 28 + colophon. Alford, like whoever famously declined to sign the Beatles, dismissed Robert Frost the same year declining to believe there to be “any such thing as American poetry”. How much this fueled Frost’s uncharitable view of the English we can only wonder. Neat ownership signature of fellow minor Georgian poet Oliver Davies. Slight loss at head of spine & a little foxing at end papers but otherwise a very bright copy with red & black lettered labels on spine & upper board. The plain pale tan dust jacket, in itself a remarkable survival, is slightly nicked & chipped with a 2 cm closed tear at tail fore corner of front panel.
