(32pp.) Stratford’s only collection published in his lifetime; he died the following year. “…tributes of a kind to those French poets who, in the latter half of the nineteenth century, determined the course of modern poetry”. The promise of his own part in which was evident in these poems to both Tony Tanner as well as his own contemporaries: “… it seemed to me then (as it seems to me now) that his work was some of the most original of my generation.” Peter Ackroyd.
