Description

40pp. + (ii) photo frontis. & a tipped in signed* poem in the author’s holograph. All edges gilt including those of the tipped in poem: “Desire – Oh I am sated, sated unto death with your cold lips, your bed of dull desire; my spirit yearns for some strange vital breath to burn my body like a blaze of fire.” We have been unable to establish if this is published. The frontis. has been inscribed & signed conventionally by McKay (not in facsimile as so often is the case at portraits). Marbled end papers. Title and author lettered in gilt on front board. A few scattered light spots of foxing. Leather a little scuffed with some splitting at upper edge at spine; now in an archival transparent acetate dust jacket. Laid in is a McKay poem clipped from the Liberator dated March 1921 (during his co-editorship). An exceptional item. (*as Claude; the McKay is in another hand)
