Foreword by Hayden Carruth. Berg has inscribed the title page for Poetry London editor Scott Verner “For Scott always Steve.” as well as striking out the last line of the poem 1909. The dust jacket is tape-mended on almost all sides & on the inside front flap Verner has noted a number of pages with the query “Whose voice S or A?” This is echoed on the flap itself by Rexroth’s blurb ” The only word for the Akhmatova poems is amazing.Berg has done a magnificent job of ‘method’ – completely projecting himself into the other person. It is hard to believe his versions were done by a man.”
